Extended supersymmetric σ-models on group manifolds. Pt. 1

Description
We investigate the possibilities of N-extended rigid supersymmetries in two-dimensional actions, in particular parallelized group manifolds. We give a full classification of all such manifolds with N=2 or N=4. We explicitly construct the supersymmetries which are related to complex or quaternionic structures. The N=4 manifolds are related to Wolf spaces. Only flat spaces allow N>4. Depending on the dimension N=1, 2, 4, 8 mod 8. (orig.)
