The IRSN has assessed the safety of R73 parcel model loaded with active metallic wastes

Description

After having recalled the legal requirements regarding the safety of radioactive material transportation and applied to parcels containing these materials, this report from the French Nuclear Safety and Radioprotection Institute (IRSN) briefly describes the R73 parcel which has been designed to contain radioactive wastes issued by PWR reactors and nuclear power plant dismantling. It indicates the scope of expertise of the IRSN with respect to this parcel. It notices that the characteristics to be controlled for parcel content have not been correctly specified by the manufacturer. It briefly comments the results of different investigations performed on this parcel model: structural, thermal, and confinement analysis, and radiation protection
