Luminescence properties of uranium-activated lanthanum halotungstate (La3WO6Cl3-U)
Description
The luminescence properties of La3W/sub 1-x/U/sub x/O6Cl3 (x less than or equal to 0.01) are reported. The orange emission is due to a trigonal uranate prism and shows high quantum efficiency. Excitation of the host lattice does not result in uranate emission. The spectra show vibrational structure at low temperatures. An analysis of this structure has been made. For that purpose the vibrational spectra of unactivated La3WO6Cl3 were studied also. The decay time of the uranate emission is one of the shortest ever observed. This is primarily due to the absence of an inversion center in the trigonal prism
