Investigation of cold upsetting process of a stuck cylinder

Description

The problem of cold shrinkage of a cylinder clamped in a die is discussed. This problem is typical for the most production lines engaged in fastener manufacture. Selection of coordinate functions with due regard to peculiar features of the process and applied solution procedure are described. The results of numerical investigation of the work and power functionals in the stationary region are given. The conclusion is drawn that the functionals are ''smooth'' so that there exists a possibility for numerical solution of the variation equation which describes the principle of possible deformed state changes
