Radiation damage in molecular crystals

  • 1. Glasgow Univ. (United Kingdom)

Description

Electron beam interactions with the specimen initiate the chemical reactions whose products are observable in the electron microscope, in the form of mass loss or structural degradation. Low temperature studies on organic crystals show continual protection down to 10K. Radiolytic reactions on carbon indicated that the active species is an excited molecule. (Author)
