Analytical procedures for depleted UF4 and uranium alloys in penetrator programs
Description
A compilation of analytical procedures used by the National Lead Company of Ohio (NLO) for analyses of green salt (UF4) and uranium-rich alloys in Department of Defense penetrator programs is presented. Physical, chemical and spectrochemical methods are described in detail or by reference to other published works. ASTM methods were used for determination of bulk density and particle size of UF4. NLO methods for determination of weight loss at ll00C, UO2F2, ammonium oxalate insolubles, U4+, Si, Al, Cu, Cr, Fe, Mn, Ni and Sn in UF4 are described in detail. NLO methods are also included for determination of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and other impurities in the U-0.75 percent Ti alloys. The atomic absorption technique for analyses of titanium, molybdenum, niobium and zirconium is included
