The isotope effect at the sublimation of ammonium chloride

Description
Sublimation rates of NH4Cl and ND4Cl differ significantly. We have found ratios up to 10 by experiment. Theoretical attempts based on a model that establishes the rate-terminating step to be a surface-adhanced dissociation of ammoniumchloride to its products NH3 and HCl (resp. ND3 and DCl) have been successful. Harmonic oscillator approximation has been utilized. (orig.)
