The article reviews the site characterization investigations for radioactive waste disposal in four municipalities in Finland. The investigation sites are Haestholmen in Loviisa, Olkiluoto in Eurajoki, Romuvaara in Kuhmo and Kivetty in Aeaenekoski. The field tests focus on the characterization of quality and flow conditions of ground water and the structure and hydraulic conductivity of the bedrock
