Percutaneous endopyelotomy

This paper assesses the efficacy and safety of percutaneous endopyelotomy for the relief of ureteropelvic junction obstruction and to define the integrated roles of urologists and radiologists. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Since July 1983, we have performed over 160 endopyelotomies for the relief of ureteropelvic junction obstruction at our institution, in patients aged 3-79 years. We report our experience in the first 100 patients who have been followed up for at least 1 year. Preoperative evaluation consisted of intravenous pyelography (IVP), furosemide washout renal scanning, and retrograde pyelography. The Whitaker test was also performed in several patients.
