Description
Purpose: To obtain weighing light and long-life type control rods using lesser amount of long life neutron absorbing materials. Constitution: An elongate sheath of U-shaped cross section is attached at the opening thereof to each of the legs of a tie rod having the cross-like cross section to form a cross-like wing. A plurality of neutron absorbing rods are loaded within each of the wings. All of the structural materials for the control rods excepting for the above-mentioned neutron absorbing materials are formed with zircalloy or zircalloy-based alloy. The neutron absorbing rod is formed from hafnium charged within a cladding tube made of zircalloy or zirconium-based alloy. (Moriyama, K.)
