Moessbauer effect of 119Sn in tin sulfides produced through thermal decomposition of SnS2

Description

The intermediate tin sulfides produced through thermal decomposition of SnS2 were studied by quenching and Moessbauer spectroscopy. The thermal decomposition of SnS2 in a nitrogen gas flow proceeded to SnS via Sn2S3. The existing phases of the decomposition products in the range of the S/Sn ratio less than 1.50 were Sn2S3 and Snsub(1-x)S. A new peak observed in the Moessbauer spectrum of tin sulfides with the S/Sn ratio less than 1.04 was assigned to Sn4+ in the nonstoichiometric compound Snsub(1-x)S. (author)
