Description
Alfven ion-cyclotron (AIC) modes which is one of spontaneously excited Alfven waves in the ion cyclotron frequency range are strongly excited in the central cell of the GAMMA 10 tandem mirror. AIC modes are excited due to an anisotropic ion distribution in the velocity space. The mode has several discrete peaks and is excited as an eigenmode determined by axial boundary conditions. The mode is a standing wave in the vicinity of the center of the central cell and an outgoing wave in both side of the standing wave region. The axial structure of the AIC-mode is precisely studied.
