Irradiation effect on atomic redistribution in mechanically synthesized Fe68Ni32 alloy
Description
Moessbauer study was made into structural changes in powder alloy Fe68Ni32 prepared by mechanical alloying in argon environment and electron irradiated at 160 deg C within radiation dose range of (1-4)x1018 cm-2. It is revealed that electron irradiation promotes a homogenizing process in mechanically synthesized heterogeneous crystalline and amorphous alloys as opposed to isostructural decomposition in FeNi alloys quenched from liquid state. This points to the fact that the surface energy is a predominant moving force in the process of atomic rearrangement in mechanically produced FeNi alloys. 4 refs.; 3 figs
