Improvement of routine X-ray examinations of the thorax by insertion of a lead-containing, thorax-adapted acrylic glass filter close to the X-ray tube

Description

It was the aim of this study to develop an uncomplicated procedure permitting the lungs and mediastinal structures to be visualised simultaneously using conventional film or foil systems as well as any available hardware. For this purpose, comparative X-ray examinations were carried out in 50 patients both with the aid of the pulmonal filter and under conventional conditions. In addition, the pulmonal filter technique was tested in a further 1000 patients subjected to routine X-ray examinations of the thorax. The two alternative techniques were compared on the basis of a special rating scale designed to evaluate the number of visualised thoracic structures: The results proved the filter technique to be superior to conventional X-ray examinations. Abstract (German)

(orig./MG)
