Cutting device for radioactive solid waste in water

Description

A spent control rod is held by a holding device. A vertically cutting nozzle is moved vertically, and abrasives and high pressure water are supplied from an abrasive vessel and a pump unit respectively to vertically bisect blades of the spent control rod. Then, a horizontally cutting nozzle is moved horizontally, and abrasives and high pressure water are supplied from the abrasive vessel and the pump unit to horizontally cut the blades of the spent control rod, thereby cutting the entire spent control rod into three parts. The abrasives jetted from the cutting nozzle together with the water jet upon cutting are supplied recyclically to the abrasive vessel by an abrasive recovering and recycling supply device. This can prevent deformation of the materials to be cut and generation of dross upon cutting. (I.N.)
