Every risk of laboratory work asks for its own set of measures. Barrier between dusts, employees and environment

  • 1. Vrije Univ., Amsterdam (Netherlands). Dienst voor Veiligheid en Milieu

Description

The risks of activities in laboratories are subdivided into four classes: low, medium, high and very high. The placement of a specific activity in a risk class depends on the dangers for humans and the environment, the applied quantities and the chance for distribution of the materials. Risk-reducing safety measures ('containment') that can be taken in many fields are provided by means of guidelines. The measures concern constructional and engineering aspects, behavioral aspects, public information, education, training, management, control, medical surveillance and personal protective measures. 1 tab
