Formation of a steady-state shock front of a long-wavelength fast magnetosonic wave in space plasma with strong Alfven turbulence

Creators

Description

A study is made of the propagation of a long-wavelength fast magnetosonic wave in a space plasma with a low particle density and high temperature (βe ≅ βi ≅ 1) in a direction perpendicular to the magnetic field, along which the structures originating from a nonlinear Alfven wave due to the modulational instability propagate. It is shown that, in the case of an Alfven wave with certain parameters, a fast magnetosonic wave can be described by the Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equation. It is pointed out that the fast magnetosonic wave may be in resonance with the structures originating from the Alfven wave
