Fuel pellet for nuclear reactors

Made of enriched uranium, the pellet has the shape of a hollow cylinder of a suitable diameter and height. At its upper and lower contact faces it has crosswise performed semicircular interconnections, which connect the internal axial cooling helium compartment of the entire fuel pellet column accommodated in the fuel pin, to the circumferential cooling helium compartment along the entire periphery of the pellet column. Application of this novel setup increases the degree of fuel burnup and enables the cooling helium to circulate within each fuel pin. The reliability and operation safety of the reactor are thereby increased as well. (B.S.). 1 fig
