Fast neutron dosimetry by means of the scraping sampling method

Description

During the shut-down period of a nuclear plant, scraping samples could be taken from the surface of structural materials. From the measured 93m-Nb (16 y) and 54-Mn (315 d) activities the fast neutron fluence and flux density could be determined. Furthermore, by means of the 93m-Nb to 54-Mn activity ratio the calculated neutron spectrum could be adjusted. In order to measure the low energy (16.6 keV) X-ray activity of 93m-Nb, the niobium was separated from the steel by a chemical separation method, the yield being > 95%. The azimuthal neutron flux distribution on the PV inner wall could be determined by scraping samples of PV material at different azimuthal positions. (Auth.)
