CT-guided three-dimensional stereotactic irradiation for stage I non-small cell lung cancer using patients self breath hold

Description
We applied the CT-guided patient's self breath-hold three-dimensional (3D) conformal stereotactic radiotherapy for stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A total of 54 patients were treated with this technique. The total dose of 60 Gy was delivered in 10 fraction. Complete response (CR) and partial response (PR) rates were 16/54 (31%) and 31/54 (61%), respectively. Two years over all survival rates for total patients and medically operable patients were 61% and 87%, respectively. Pulmonary complications of National Cancer Institute-Common Toxicity Criteria grade>3 were noted in nine, but five of them were not related to this treatment. This technique is feasible and beneficial for curative treatment of patients with stage I NSCLC. (authors)
