A clinical trial for post-prostatectomy salvage radiotherapy dose and technique comparison : PSa DoT Com

Full text: This TROG led clinical trial aims to determine (a) there is a dose response in the post-prostatectomy patient (PPP) ar (b) if IMRT offers significant benefits over 3DCRT. The trial w require rigorous quality control procedures to provide good quality data to answer the trial question. The trial also offers the opportunity to develop best practice guidelines for IGRT in this group, patients. The study aims to recruit approximately 650 patients fro multiple Australasian centres. Patients will be randomised to either I 4 arms, receiving 64 or 70 Gy to the tumour bed using either 3DCRT or IMRT technique. IGRT will be mandatory, however, as no consensus guidelines exist in this cohort of patients, the data will a]; represent an opportunity to develop best practice guidelines. Results The prescribed dose for the PPP has been slowly increasing, an IMRT techniques introduced in response to this change and also the consensus to treat larger volumes without prospective trial evidence ( clinical benefit. Similarly, individual centres have investigated a variety of methods for tracking the tumour volume including 3D imaging an fiducial markers, whilst others have recognised issues surrounding the potential for significant volume shape deformation and their approach 1 to stabilise the volume through organ filling protocols and rectal ba loons with no clear consensus. Conclusions This trial offers a unique opportunity for physicist to contribute to the development of the trial design, the quality assurance program and development of best practice guidelines fe IGRT.
