Pathology of tumors induced in Harwell mice by 239Pu and 226Ra

  • 1. Medical Research Council, Harwell, Eng.

Description

Single intraperitoneal doses of 226Ra and 239Pu solutions given to Harwell-strain mice, produced mainly osteosarcoma. C3H mice were sensitive and CBA mice more resistant to 226Ra. Plutonium-239 caused additionally lymphoma in CBA and possibly an increase in miscellaneous malignancies. The histology suggests that Ra and Pu produce osteosarcoma in areas of accentuated bone turnover in cortical bone
