Solid phase joints between corundum single crystal and titanium
Creators
Description
A technology has been developed for the pressure welding of titanium VT1-1 to single crystals of corundum (sapphire) at a temperature of 9000C and at a compressive pressure of 1.5kgf/mm2. It has been shown that increase in temperature and pressure in the welding of titanium to sapphire does not accelerate the joining process to any great extent, because of the high surface activity of these materials, leading to the instantaneous formation of strong chemical bonds
