Atmospheric fluorescence as a means of detecting X-ray and γ-ray transients

Description

The possibility of detecting some of the recently reported X-ray and γ-ray bursts by their atmospheric fluorescence in the near ultraviolet is considered. It is shown that some of these phenomena may be detectable with the large optical detectors now under construction. (author)
