Transfer of atomic electrons in fast ion-atom collisions

Description

When projectile atomic species collide with target species electrons on the target may exchange with electrons on the projectile. This process can be identified by spin-tagging the electrons, thus it may be studied experimentally. The theory of this process identifies two different mechanisms (a) a double one-electron transition and (b) a transition that involves the electron-electron interaction directly. The theory of both processes is outlined and is illustrated by an example from the literature. copyright 1995 American Institute of Physics
