Prognostic significance of radiation related eosinophilia

  • 1. Kawasaki Medical School, Kurashiki, Okayama (Japan)

Description

The occurrence of eosinophilia is not infrequent during a course of cancer radiotherapy. Several authors have discussed the prognostic significance of radiation related eosinophilia (RRE). In addition to its prognostic significance, incidence of eosinophilia was investigated with reference to the region of irradiation and type of disease of patients. The relationship between RRE and PHA reaction was also explored. Our results as well as results reported in the literature, indicate that patients' prognosis is related to RRE. Furthermore, eosinophilia may indicate an immunological status of the patient. (auth.)
