Flux-tube quark model of hadrons

  • 1. Department of Physics, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1110 West Green Street, Urbana, Illinois 61801

Description

SU(3) flux-tube dynamics and asymptotic freedom are incorporated in a semirelativistic quark model for baryons and mesons. The one gluon exchange colour magnetic interactions are shown to have significant non-perturbative effects on the spectrum. These effects are essential to obtain the experimental π-rho, N-Δ and 3P-meson splittings. The observed spectra of isospin T = 1 mesons, T = 1/2 and 3/2 baryons, charmonium and b-quarkonium are semi-quantitatively explained with conventional values of the strong interaction coupling constant, string tention, and constituent quark masses. Problems and limitations of the model are emphasized
