Description

Analysis of septa from three specimens of Nautilus were performed by proton microprobe. The samples, representing internal partitions of shell formed sequentially as the animal developed from the embryonic stage, were analyzed for Ca and Sr in order to determine whether there were any metabolic differences as indicated by variations in the Ca/Sr ratio over the Nautilus lifespan.
