Description
The discovery of optical filaments around the galaxy NGC 4696 in the Centaurus cluster is reported. The filaments are strong in the light of [N II] lambda 6583 and extend to equivalent to 6 kpc from the nucleus of the galaxy. This result, together with X-ray observations, confirms the presence of a cooling flow in the Centaurus cluster. (author)
