The anti-thrombotic effect of phenprocoumon

Description

Morphologic study (by computer tomography) of the anticoagulant effect of phenprocoumon. Report of a patient who was on anticoagulants because of a myocardial infarction. The aneurysm of his abdominal aorta was not thrombosed in CT-scan. After 6 months without anticoagulant drugs a thrombus of the aneurysm occured comparable to those of 20 others studied by CT-scan. The thrombus was of the same size after 6 more months of antiaggregant prophylaxis. In spite of this it is questionable whether or not this is a drug effect. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Morphologische (computertomographische) Untersuchung zum Effekt von Phenprocoumon. Bericht ueber einen Patienten, der wegen eines Herzinfarktes antikoaguliert war. Das Aneurysma seiner abdominellen Aorta wies im CT keine Thrombosierung auf. Nach 6 Monaten ohne Antikoagulation war im CT eine den anderen 20 Untersuchten vergleichbare Thrombosierung aufgetreten. Die Thrombusgroesse aenderte sich in weiteren 6 Monaten einer Antiaggregation nicht. Dennoch ist es fraglich, ob dies ein Effekt der antiaggregierenden Substanzen ist. (orig.)
