Development of next-generation LWR project-evaluation of about two year's activities and future perspective

Description

The next-generation LWR project was started in 2008 to meet the need for the replacement of existing nuclear power plants in Japan after 2030. To cope with the global standard design, it aims at improved safety, reliability and economics through several innovative technologies such as a reactor core system with uranium enrichment of 5 to 10%, a seismic isolation system, advanced construction technique and innovative digital technologies. This article introduced present state of nuclear power in the world and Japan's problem for international development, overview of next-generation LWR project and results of the interim evaluation of the project.
