Description
Absorbed fraction of alpha particles energy in the sensitive tissue of the human respiratory tract has been calculated in ICRP 66 by using Monte Carlo method. In this paper, a semi-analytical method for the calculation of alpha particles energy dissipation in the target tissue was developed. This method was based on the paper (Haque A.K.M.M. 'Energy expended by alpha particles in lung tissue II. A computer method of calculation', published in Brit. J. Appl. Phys. 18, 657-662 (1967)), but it was advanced for voluminous sources of alpha particles and several different source-target geometries were considered in it. Stopping power of alpha particles in tissue was adapted from ICRU 49 in the difference of ICRP 66 where the stopping power in liquid water was used. (author)
