Contribution to the study of the quinary system Pb-Bi-O-Fe-Hg. Characterization of the ternary system Pb-Fe-O

  • 1. Laboratoire de Chimie du Solide Mineral - UMR 7555 Universite Henri Poincare Nancy 1 F-54506 Vandoeuvre-les-Nancy (France)

Description

The knowledge of the system Pb-Bi-O-Fe-Hg is required to understand and anticipate the damage mechanisms of the steel T91 considered as the structure material of the future nuclear reactors called ADS (Accelerator Driven System). In this device, the steel will be in direct contact with the liquid spallation beam (lead or Pb-Bi eutectics). In this work, the characterization of the ternary systems Pb-Fe-O and Bi-Fe-O has been followed. Experimental investigations (DTA, isothermal annealings, SEM and electronic microprobe) in complement with literature data have allowed to model these systems according to a Calphad approach using the Thermo-Calc software. All the obtained results contribute to increase the database of the quinary system begun in the laboratory in 2002. (O.M.)
