Underground disposal of radioactive wastes
Description
Disposal of radioactive waste is generally recognized as an area of central importance for the further development and acceptance of nuclear power. The International Symposium on Underground Disposal of Radioactive Waste, organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency jointly with the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency in co-operation with the Geological Survey of Finland, and held at Otaniemi from 2 to 6 July 1979, thus addressed a subject of topical interest to many countries, to the international nuclear and scientific community, and to the public at large. This was evidenced by the more than 400 participants from 32 countries and four international organizations and the comprehensive scientific programme of the symposium.
