Fuel height AGR stringer drop tests and damage estimates for the refuelling safety case

  • 1. UKAEA Springfields Nuclear Power Development Labs.
  • 2. UKAEA Windscale Nuclear Power Development Labs.

Description

The paper concerns the fuel height AGR stringer drop tests and damage estimates, in connection with the AGR on-load fuelling investigations. The major tests in the programme were full height drops of unirradiated stringers into a simulated reactor channel, carried out at Windscale Nuclear Laboratories in 1981 and 1984. A description is given of the stringer details, drop test facility, and measured parameters. Some test results, stringer damage, damage initiation, development of damage, and effects of irradiation, are all discussed. (UK)
