Relativistic heavy ion collisions and the nuclear equation of state
Description
The general properties of the nucleus-nucleus collisions in the GeV/A range are reviewed. It is shown that, despite of the very transient nature of the process, some observable quantities are linked with the formation of a dense, very excited state of the matter. It is not, however, quite clear wether these quantities are relevant for the bulk properties of the matter. The questions of the pion multiplicity and the deuteron to proton ratio are analyzed. The equation of state is tentatively derived for some values of the thermodynamical variables
