Oxygen stabilized zirconium-vanadium-iron alloy

Description

An oxygen stabilized intermetallic compound having the formula (Zrsub(1-x)Tisub(x))sub(2-u)(Vsub(1-y)Fesub(y))Osub(z) where x=0.0 to 0.9, y=0.01 to 0.9, z=0.25 to 0.5 and u=0 to 1. The compound is capable of reversibly sorbing hydrogen at temperatures from -1960C to 2000C at pressures down to 10-6 torr. The compound is suitable for use as a hydrogen getter in low pressure, high temperature applications such as magnetic confinement fusion devices, and the iron content may be substituted by nickel, cobalt or manganese.
