Estimation of uranium in low active waste solutions using EDXRF

Description
In order to examine the capability of EDXRF for the assay of uranium in low active analytical waste solution, U containing PVA films were prepared by evaporation of a mixture of U solution and polyvinyl alcohol. Using a set of standard films with graded amount of uranium, calibration plot was set up. PVA film containing uranium from the active analytical solution was prepared in a similar manner and the concentration of uranium was determined from the calibration plot. The other elements present in the analytical waste were determined qualitatively. One synthetic sample was also analysed for uranium and good agreement was observed between added and determined U concentrations in this sample. (author)
