Assessment of various sublethal chromium hexavalent concentrations in ambient water, fish muscles and progeny (larvae)

  • 1. Fisheries Research and Traning Inst., Lahore (Pakistan)
  • 2. University of the Punjab, Lahore (Pakistan). Dept. of Zoology

Description

Chromium accumulation estimated on atomic absorption spectrophotometer increased significantly (P<0.01) with the increase in metal concentration from 25 to 150 mg/l. Chromium accumulation in treated group was noted as ambient water (36 to 118 micro g/ml fish muscles (59 to 84 micro g/ml) > larvae (21 to 67 micro g/ml), while in their corresponding control group no chromium was detected in ambient water and fish larvae. 0.21 to 0.5 micro g/ml Cr (VI) was detected in fish muscles naturally acquired by fish for growth.
