Overview of ESS, R and D efforts and results
Description
A study for a future European Neutron Source based on a 5 MW accelerator with two spallation targets was completed in 1996 by a consortium of European institutes. The study was funded by the participants and by the CEC under the HCM programme. An R and D phase has now begun to address topics identified in the study. A brief description is given of the European Spallation Source (ESS) design and its progress along with the status of the accelerator R and D programme
