Description

The activity of the sulpho-vibrio group of bacteria causing the degradation of concrete containment vessels for disused chemicals at the Craigmillar Quarry, Edinburgh, leading to the explosion and fire in 1970, and its bearing on the construction of deep repositories for radioactive wastes is discussed.
