Chernobyl caesium in Yorkshire

Description
In November 1987, there was great public concern in Yorkshire following the publication of newspaper articles on the levels of fallout in Yorkshire from the Chernobyl radiation cloud. In response to this, the NRPB set up a mobile whole body monitoring service at Ilkley for the public. Measurements of the body content of radiocaesium were made on 387 people from a wide geographical area around West and North Yorskhire and in all but three cases the result was less than the limit of detection. Members of the public were greatly reassured when given the opportunity to discuss their queries with NRPB staff. (U.K.)
