High-illumination α-spectrometer with high focal ratio for investigations in pulsed radiation fields

Description

An improved high-illumination α-spectrometer for (n,α) investigations is described. Study of (n, α) reaction being continued required to increase further the sample area without violation of α-energy resolution and orload characteristics of the spectrometer. It was achieved by introducing a chamber of cylindrical geometry and collimation of the neutron beam in a form of a ring enclosing the sample and partly (approximately 15%) the working area of the chamber. The use of the described spectrometer in experiments on (n,α) and (n,γα) reactions with resonance neutrons as well as for the measurement of partial cross sections of (n,α) reaction in keV neutron energy region with the IBR-30 pulsed reactor proved it being preferable to the earlier employed spectrometers
