Description

This paper describes the background and status of the Japanese regulatory position on severe accident management: NSC's (Nuclear Safety Commission) statement on accident management, MITI's (Ministry of International Trade and Industry) requests on accident management, MITI's and NSC's review on accident management. In a second part, it describes the related activities, mostly at the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute (JAERI) and at the Nuclear Power Engineering Corporation (NUPEC), and how they are to be used for more detailed assessment, implementation and improvement of the accident management measures
