Acoustic emission to study effects of thermal history and microstructure on hydrogen embrittlement of stainless steel
Description
Testing of the first set of stainless steel specimens with four different microstructures proceeded far enough to permit some definite conclusions concerning the acoustic emission behavior of the material and its microstructural origin. The work to date has been sufficiently encouraging that the decision to proceed with fabrication of compact fracture toughness specimens for the hydrogen pressure chamber and a second set of tension and compression specimens to be hydrogen charged has been made
