Carbon transfer between structural steel and flowing sodium: sodium/steel boundary layer

Creators

  • 1. Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy INd Co, Tokyo, Japan

Description

Type 304 stainless steel specimens immersed in a sodium loop revealed differences in transfer behavior according to specimen form (foil or tube) and sodium flow rate. A dynamic analysis of carbon transfer based on the proposed relation existing between sodium flow rate and sodium boundary parameters is applied to a 304 - 2-1/4Cr-1Mo bimetallic system in a LMFBR secondary circuit. Carbon transfer behavior expected to take place between sodium and structural materials during 30 years of reactor life is predicted for contamination from sources other than the structural materials. 9 refs
