2011 Reinforcement course. Safety analyses in nuclear plants. Development and application in daily operation

  • 1. Nuklearforum Schweiz, Bern (Switzerland)

Description

For decades, safety analyses used to be performed only in theoretical calculations. Over the past 15 years, however, they have been integrated step by step into daily plant management of nuclear facilities. This translation of analyses into daily operation, the optimizations achieved and the backfitting steps taken, have further added to the safety of nuclear installations. The joint efforts of Swiss regulatory authorities and licensees of nuclear plants have resulted in Switzerland enjoying a very high level of safety analysis by international comparison. The 2011 reinforcement course of the Swiss Nuclear Forum allowed Swiss and international experts from science, industry, and public authorities to pass on their expertise in safety analysis and its roots in daily operation of nuclear plants. In what areas do deterministic and probabilistic approaches supplement each other, and where are they treated separately? (orig.)
