Uranium resources inventory at Kelawai Bindang area, west Kalimantan. Systematic prospection

The purpose of systematic prospecting activities at Kelawai Bindang Area, West Kalimantan, was to enumerate uranium resources and to obtain scientific explanation on uranium mineralization in this area. The activities were based on the finding of outcrops and boulders radiometric anomaly (200 cps - 300 cps) by CEA-BATAN in 1976. The prospecting methods encompassed detailed geological observation for the identification of geological characteristic of uranium mineralization. This included structure elements of lithological and morphological types, and distribution of boulders anomalous that were supported by radiometric soil grid (25 m spacing) and laboratory analysis (mineralogical and geochemical). The prospecting results indicate that radioactive elements mineralization was controlled by foliation in seri cite schist and quartzite biotite andalusite which in turn associated with monazite and zircon minerals. Major radioactive elements found were thorium (more than 500 ppm) and uranium (less than 50 ppm). Isoradiometric soil anomaly generally oriented from SW to NE and from NW to SE, following stratification strike and boulders distribution found in the northern part of Kelawai Bindang.
