On the problems and necessity of nuclear power engineering development in the USSR

Main results of domestic nuclear power development for the period starting with 1955 (NPP commissioning in Obninsk) and up to 1990, are considered. Basic problems connected with NPP operation and growth of antinuclear activities of population in the certain regions of the country are analyzed. The necessity in the further development of nuclear power under the current complicated economic conditions is stressed
