Study on the implementation of Indonesian National Standards in the irradiated food sector to improve product competitiveness

In the era of free trade, technical regulations related to the circulation of goods and/or services imposed by a country must refer to and meet a standard. The Indonesian National Standard policy (SNI) is issued with the aim that SNI can provide benefits to the community, both as consumers and producers. Until now, some people and business actors have not understood the importance/benefits of SNI, both mandatory and voluntary SNI. Irradiated ready-to-eat foods such as rendang, pepes and stews are BATAN's superior products from the food irradiation process. The irradiated food can be developed into a promising trade commodity, as long as the products meet the standards related to irradiated food. One of the standards that is used as a reference in the food irradiation process is SNI 8352:2017, therefore it is necessary to conduct a study related to the application of SNI for irradiated food. The method used in this study is the method of analysis and data collection. With the fulfillment of standards, local products, especially related to irradiated ready-to-eat food, are expected to penetrate foreign markets with a higher level of competitiveness. (author)
